I am so angry I was not careful enough

Oh no!We had a dog come into our yard a few years ago and kill all of our chickens accept for 2 of the youngest ones who flew into our neighbors yard.Ever since the drama it has become their special place flying over every day teaching the youngest ones to follow the example!🤪
Easy to add netting to keep them in the yard. Its amazing how good a job it does.

Is the herding dog a border collie? If not, do u know what breed? I have "classic" lgds that guard my chickens, but also a cattle dog that is my best protector of all. She is 13 now, has arthritis and has lost her hearing, so im in the market for another herding dog type. Probably gonna go with border collie, but interested in your input. Dogs can be a chicken's worst enemy, but can likewise be their best protector, thats for sure.
Our girl is a blue heeler mix. Mostly heeler she has a lot of white so we know something is in there. She was a rescue dog for us; she has been around chicks and ducks from day 1, and they trust her enough to steal apples from her (lol). She will not tolerate any OTHER chickens tho - she chases off our neighbors chickens from 2 doors down (he lets them run wild). Cats as well. Our cats - fine. Others get chased away. Not attacked, just run off. And she never leaves the property.
A straight up protector. She has helped us round up goats when they have strayed and although she would love to be in the paddock with them my does HATE her.
She informs us every evening when it us time to put everyone away. I guess we dont tell time correctly!
Every situation must be evaluated but we have come to love the breed.

Lol, my Shelties have built-in time-keepers too, but they totally don't get Daylight Savings! They know to the minute when it's their feeding time, and an hour later when I'm supposed to feed the chickens and gather eggs. Locking the chickens up is problematic though, as we go by the sun, not the clock, and they haven't figured that one out! Dogs are funny people. :love

Exactly the same here! Damn daylight savings throws her a bit! 😂
