In the Brooder
I am a brand new chicken owner. I barely know what I'm doing or what I'm looking at so I need all of your guidance before I do anything dramatic.
About 6 weeks ago I bought a straight run mix of chicks from a local breeder. In my order I bought X2 Mille Fleur D'ucelle, X2 Mystic Marans, X2 Buff/Maran X, and X2 Wyandotte/Maran X.
Last week at 4.5 weeks I noticed that all but 2 of the chicks had large red combs and deep red waddles and I was horrified that I now have 6 cockerels and 2 pullets. My plan was to pick up a few pullets and re-home a few of the roos in the next few weeks. Before I do that I want help in identifying what I really have going on. My "male" Mystic Maran actual looks like a cuckoo Maran so maybe it's not male after all? The "female" Mystic Maran is late to the feather game, maybe she is a he? For sure I know that one of the Milles is male and the other is a female (I will keep this roo since I happy having the pair.) The ones I am most sad about are my Buff X... Both have incredibly large combs and red waddles. They are gorgeous and I was hoping one would have been a pullet. The only difference between the two Buff X is that one has feathered feet
