I am so excited!!! Take a look at my new babies!

I have only ordered day old chicks online, never hatched them out.

One of my hens went broody back in June and I bought some eggs from Harley's Girl. I put them under my hen on 6/26 and they are hatching today!! This is so exciting!!

I'm not going to take them from her, I want her to raise them . . . . but can I pick them up? Will she get upset? Would she hurt the babies?

one of my silkies is sitting on eggs right now too so ill hopefully have 4 chicks on july 30th. anywho, about your questions. first, how close are you to the chicken? the closer you are to her the less chance you have she'll get mad at you if you try to take "her" chicks. I would first try to pick one up w/ gloves on since there is a fairly good chance she'll try to peck at you and hide her chicks under her, her behavior will be siimilar as when she was setting on the eggs. I don't think she'll hurt the babies if she is a good mother breed, because some "bad" momma breeds will actually peck at their chicks and might even kill them. but, judging by the pic, yours looks like a barred rock, and i've heard those are pretty good moms, even though mine has never had chicks.

How many eggs did you give her to hatch?

I ordered 14 in case any broke during shipment. None did, they were wrapped very well, so I put them all under her.
She pushed two out only two days after I put them there. (probably too many to cover)
She was able to cover the rest nicely, so I left all 12 there.
