I've never heard of the two being ganged- check the connections, the plugs, the cords, surge protectors, multi-plugs... all of that. If all that fails, start thinking of alternative ways. It might slow down the hatch, but there's still a chance. Good luck!

I'm going to take the back off of it and see if anything is unhooked or damaged.

You cant get a screwdriver in the holes where the screw is; the screw is in about 2 inches.
