BUT, I still love my ducks more (sorry silkie chickens!) because I had them first and they're so much funnier. Silkies are awesome in their own ways though. Haven't let them go broody yet, since they're only a few months old and haven't begun laying yet, but we'll get there eventually!

Don't worry about being a 'traitor.' Your ducks won't mind. But remember you have to take care of these animals in winter too; have fun wading through snow and dealing with frozen waterers.

Oh, and you'll forget about feeling bad about having more than one species when you get your goslings.

We have had a light snow the last two years, anout two inches max. As for the frozen waterers and pools - that starts around the end of november. I hav to go out everymorning in mud boots to stomp and break it all up, then I have to load the huge pieces in the the wheelbarrow to toss in the back field or we stomp it and smash it on the road.

UGH! My mom is revolting! She says no chickens or geese. But you know.... She cant really do much once they hatch and she melts into a thousand pieces about how cute they are. I know that she secretly wants a goose or two because she is always just so transfixed with the canda geese around here. Im thinking of getting a cackling goose or two to add to the ones I keep from Rainplace's eggs.

BTW - Am I going to need a bigger turner for the goose eggs?

I don't even know if they make goose egg turners, but I know you can buy new rails to hatch quail eggs, so maybe they DO sell them.

And curse you for getting to go out with boots on and just break some ice off the top of the pool! Grrrrr!

My pool froze completely solid. Quickly.

I think this year I'll just empty it and forget about using a pool in the winter months.

And don't let your mom tell you what to do!
(no I'm just kidding; listen to your parents, it's important)

She WILL love geese if one gets attached to her and she starts acting like it's momma! Make sure to honk at them when they're little; they honk back.

Im so excited! I dont think I can wait till spring . But then again I need more practice with the bator before I try geese.
