Ok.... In april I bought a she that turned out to be a he...chicken, of course.. LOL.. He was told to us to be a Giant Cochin...All the cochins ive seen look nothing like him.. He looks more like the Jersey Giant rooster that we had (and have since sold) except for the feathers on his legs..

He is gangly and uncordinated, but is slowly maturing and is going to be a great looking guy.. and he is friendly as all get out...

In this pic, he is next to Lavern, a splash jersey giant (or so I was told... im new at this)

And this is just him.. Not great pics, I know.. I disturbed them in the hen house trying to stay out of the sun and cool..

If anyone can help identify him.. id be eternaly greatful...
Hes a keeper, unless he gets mean... Id just like to know what ive got.

Thanks.

He is definately not a cochin. I is pretty common for people selling chickens to take advantage of newcomers and sell them bad mixed breed birds. In all my years of showing I have never seen a black standard rooster with a single comb, an upright tail and feathered feet. He might be a mutt.

Even mutt chickens are a joy to have and they lay eggs too! I wouldn't worry about the breed, just enjoy and learn all you can. Later on you can study different breeds and choose 1 or 19 to suit your fancy. I had mixed game-bantam-mutt chickens about 30 years ago and it didn't make any difference-I still had more eggs than I knew what to do with. Now I live in town and have 2 SLW hens in the back yard.

Oh.. hes a keeper all right.. Ive been thinking of training him to a harness and taking him for walks.. Just for kicks....

When kids come over and want to pet a chicken, hes the easiest to catch and just sits there in my arms while the pet him..
And, its fun watching him run.. his feet are so huge he makes a thumping sound on the ground... Hence, his name is Thumper....

He is a mutt.A cochin with maybe a black Australorp.A cochinlorp? lol!

We had a bared rock roo that mated with our american game hens.We now have 3 bared rock game hens.Mutts..got to love em!

We have a bunch of Black copper marans chicks and I was thinking that when I have to sell some when there older, I will put him in with the flock and pretend hes one of them.... LOL.. can you imagine the looks on faces when they see the giant baby???? Baby Huey...

Anyway.. I have a couple Jersey Giant hens that im going to breed with him later and see what kind of chicks I get.. see if there big or just average...

Langshan maybe? Or Langshan cross given he doesn't have that U-shape? Cochin cross?
