Can they get black head in the winter? Here the ground is froze solid at the moment, Does that kill it off or at least stop it from spreading?

Barn lime shouldn't bother as it's much weaker than the 'normal' lawn/garden lime. I wouldn't hesitate to use it at all. I add it to the chicken's dusting box and have even used it in the ducks/goose outside pen without any issues at all. Try it...you'll like it, lol.
I have 36, lol, all I do is what I know they travel. The rest of it, let it go. If they start going farther afield, it will give them a chance to build up an immunity to it. Do what you can and expand when you can.On all seven acres?
