I am the worst quail mommy ever

Sometimes they just run underneath the plate. Or they think they're ducks, then they drown themselves, or try to say "hi!" to a predator. It's like quail have a self destruct button constantly being pushed from the inside.

I learned about saying "Hi" to the raccoon last night....Most of my birds are surrounded in a large fence containing my African goose....I have one pen thats not.....Mr.Coon visited that one....Lost 4 coturnix of 7....only coturnix though, my scaled quail and bobwhites were smart enough not to get eaten

Did you see this thread? This is after I raccoon proofed. He gave it one heck of a shot anyway though.

ETA: In those pics you'll see exactly why he got the coturnix.

I saw that thread the day you posted it! Was horrible! Thats why he only got the coturnix....the blue scaled and bobwhites were smart enough to stay out of reach cuz the coon could only reach in through one side

Exactly. That wild instinct, that coturnix lack completely.

I'm finding that even if they run away, if you stay still and wait them out even for just 5 minutes, some of them will come close enough to grab.
