So we've had a few nice days here in Michigan and I took a few of the chicks out, flipped a laundry basket over and let them enjoy the outdoors. Btw - they acted terrified. So I asked dh if he could build something they could be outside in but still, like a tractor. When I went into the garage this is what was there....

Now don't get me wrong, its gorgeous, but heavy.. Can't wait til he finishes our coop! But, its not easy to clean from the looks of it. It'll get the birds out of my basement and their tired cardboard box but what can I use that won't require daily cleaning? Pine litter? Maybe sand?

lol...are you talking about all the rivets things? well I told him chicken wire won't keep predators out, maybe he thought he'd try to enforce it. Anyhow they'll be garage bound in this.

Well its def not a tractor, guess I should have explained it better. Poor guy, don't want to tell him it won't work. He said, well we can always burn it in the fire pit if you don't want to use it. I should make this guy build coops for people.

So bedding for the temp coop? Pine litter? Sand??

Is it larger than the brooder you already have? If not, no loss..what about adding wheels?

I like sand but either would work

Its better than the tired cardboard box and newspaper they're in now. Would sand or pine litter be better to use? Trying to clean this thing daily like right now with the newspapers won't be easy.

I prefer the screened shavings they are smaller and seem to lat longer. He did do a good job on the tractor though.
