Our broody Ameraucana began sitting on a clutch on Monday the 13 of April. If I count the days right today is day 21. We have never done this before, so this may be a stupid question. We cannot hear and cheeps from the chicks inside the eggs. We are hoping that it is cause the hen is sitting on the eggs and that all this cheeping business you hear about is only for incubator type hatches. So can you hear the cheeps/pipping/zipping/whatever when the hen is sitting on the eggs? Just wondering!

Chicks cheap before hatching. It's so the hen can bond to them and they to the hen. You may or may not hear it as it doesn't occur constantly. Have you checked under your hen?

I usually hear peeps after they hatch under her. And when I incubate the first peep I hear is after the external pip then I hear others that have not pipped. I am new to incubating and on Saturday night my first hatchling appeared and it wasn't the one that external pipped first either. I still have more eggs that show life in there that hasnt done anything yet i'm on days 23/25 i'm hoping for at least 2 to come out

On Thursday I have 5 going into lockdown again
