i can hardly contain myself!!!!!

well, they shipped today, and for some unknown reason they (welp) do not put a tracking number on the chicks (hello - wouldnt that be a good idea?!) but in all my correspondence, they say to expect the chicks to arrive in 2-3 days. as far as the electrolytes, i was going to follow the package instructions, but just today i read a couple people saying they thought the electrolytes helped cause pastybutt. so, i will err on the side of caution and use my better judgement (if i have any:p)

I ordered some eggs and have them in the bator, I am about to die over the three weeks for them to hatch! I couldn't wait that long! Very impaitent! The first batch of Silkie eggs drove me so nuts,

that I went out and found a guy near me who sold them and bought four of his chicks to hold me over until mine hatched. I needed to see some fuzzy butts!

I've gotten 2 orders this year and I gave the first batch vitamins and electrolytes for the first week. We wiped butts for the first week. Not all of them but a couple of chicks did have problems. It cleared up almost immediately after i quit using it. The second batch i gave them v & m for the first day then stopped. Only one case of pasty butt on second day. Not scientific but thats what i've experienced. Good Luck

When they recommended the electrolyte powder at the feed store, they just told me to sprinkle enough in the water to turn it a pale yellow. I think my impression of "pale" was too dark, and looking at it through a plastic waterer doesn't give you a true read on the color anyway. I still think it's a good idea to use the electrolyte powder for maybe the first few days - just very sparingly.

Keep some plain yogurt on hand just in case. It was recommended (along with instant oatmeal) by a BYC poster when I asked for help with the Pasty Butt situation and the problems literally cleared up overnight.

i started with 8-now i have 7... i think thats is all i will have for awhile... enjoy your babies when they get here... they grow up so fast...
