I took my little duckling with the twisted leg to the vet today and she said it was a defect, and that it would either adapt and learn to survive, or wouldnt thrive. She said the only thing I could really do is continue to let it swim to try to strengthen the leg, and break down a cuttlebone over its food to help with calcium. I tried throwing food at the bottom of the kiddy pool they swim in, the bigger one will dive right for it, and the little one(which my family has started to call Nemo, because of his leg, I thought it was silly
) will try, but I guess isnt strong enough to go under. Will this be a problem?
Heres the video again of the little guys leg.
So I've decided to look for a third duckling, just incase the Nemo unfortunately doesnt survive, I dont want the big one to be alone.. But I cannot find them anywhere! Ive checked the local feed store, craigslist, and our newspaper..I even called the shelter to see if some kids dumped them there... (thats how I got these little guys..unwanted easter gifts!
) and nada! Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm really hoping Nemo survives. Hes soo much smaller than the other.. (I'll have to post pictures.) & all of this has really got me attached
