You could always just call an ambulance if you go into labor and don't have a ride. A lot of town squads are volunteers and EMTs typically love labor calls. There's always excitement when a baby might get delivered!

My neighbor already told us that if I go into labor, her truck is available for usage. But since she has a cracked windshield and broken tail lights, she doesn't want anyone to use it for anything else expecially going all the way to gainesville which is about 30 to 45 min drive.

i would take the ambulance over the truck if i were you..if it doesnt have tail lights, all it takes is for one person to rear end you to turn an already serious situation into a really bad one.

It has tail lights but the glass is broken, there is red tape over it. Her son ran the back of it (it's an Ford Explorer) into my husband's flatbed truck (not running and BIGGER then the explorer!) and not only broke the tail light but bent the back door pretty good. He said he backed up carefully and didn't see the flatbed (OH PLEASE!)

Also, should find out soon, if I am able to do at home birth, like hubby and I are planning. We also have hubby's sister that lives down the street and hubby's dad and uncles are not far away as well. If we have labor emergancy, there is someone willing to jump in. Kinda weird, no one will help us with transportation to appointments but if there is a labor, they are more then willing!

Thanks, I remember that very well (except I thought it was lie on the left side), but I'm no where near the point where the doctors will have me checking fetal movement each day. In fact, I can probably feel the baby this early only because I know for sure what I'm feeling (since this is my 5th pregnancy that has gone past 10 weeks gestation), unlike a first time mom who has never felt those flutters before... KWIM? I'm not feeling any kicks yet, just those "butterfly flutters" as I like to call them. I ate some sugar earlier and did feel some light fluttering a little later. YAY!

i am totally not trying to be nosy, but i would reconsider doing a home birth unless you are 100 percent sure of having a way to the hospital in case something goes wrong..those precious few minutes trying to find and then waiting for a ride could cause a lot of harm.

Why reconsider a home birth because of transportation issues? I don't understand that part.

I had a home birth with my daughter almost 6 years ago - it was an amazing experience! Made even more so by the fact I had had a c-section 4 years before. No reason to reconsider a home birth because of transportation issues, that would be crazy if it were the only reason!

Just my 2c.

(For the record, I didn't do those tests for diabetes either, I was pretty low risk and lets face it - your body isn't going to be happy with all that nasty sugar junk anyway)

i was just thinking about if by some chance there was a complication..but then i realized that the midwife would be there and would have a car so it would be irrelevant.

you are very brave women...if i could, i would be put to sleep for the whole thing!
