One like this... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P1WIO4/ref=s9_simh_gw_p75_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=15962YCQ2EKG36JKVVYP&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846

I
really like that it has deep sides so the baby can't roll off. Some of them look like they aren't very safe in that area. And some of them are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive.

I like that

dunno whether I'll get one or just use a changing mat- finances are already a bit stretched anyway... I'm hoping my mother will get me a cotbed, which will be my biggest expense if she doesn't.

I think I am going to sell my changing table, but it is so heavy not sure I want to fool with it.....never used one the last 2 babies, was easier to change them on the bed or floor.

I have to side on the hospital births......they are not as laid back as a birthing center and they are a pain, but I worked as a surgical technologist for 7 years and I know what a crash C-section is like and some of the women had no problems or concerns the whole pregnancy....it can be scary. They should be thankful they were at the hospital or the outcome would be different.

I completely understand, baby stuff is expensive, especially when you consider that some of the stuff, like a crib and changing table, will only be used for a few years. But I was able to find the exact same table somewhere else $35 cheaper, with free shipping, so I went ahead and ordered it. (The online pic isn't as big and clear which is why I linked the amazon one.)

What exactly is a cotbed?

When getting ready for baby keep an eye out at Target. About three times a year they clearance out all the bigger items. I know around here they just clearanced out baby items. When I was expecting my second, my baby swing was regularly 100.00 and my MIL picked it up for 25.00 (I think it was that called Ocean Wonders). And I had saw a really nice Graco 5-40 lb carseat that was regularly 90.00 marked down to 25.00. They mark down all the big stuff, though -- carseats, strollers, bouncy seats, etc. My friend who is expecting twins just picked up a double stroller for 90.00 and the original price was around 150.00. Happy shopping ladies!

a cotbed is a cot which converts to a bed when your child is too old for a cot... maybe you call cots cribs, but I thought that was just for what I would call a cradle... (cradle is one of those things you put baby to sleep in and rock it...)

erm... other terms that I know are different -
diaper = nappy.
I *think* onesies are what we call babygrows ...
bassinette = moses basket

there are probably loads more...

we don't have target... the cheapest for baby gear seem to be the supermarkets though.
or second hand - that's the cheapest of all!

Second hand is my favorite! Just went through the oldest DD's 2T clothing -- will fit my youngest. I told the hubby that I will not need to buy one thing this spring through next winter -- as far as clothing and shoes. Love garage sales, too!

Funny and interesting how our terms differ, even though our language is the same.

lol I was right except I thought you used the word "crib" for cradle, when it is cot!
and we don't differentiate between what you call bassinettes and moses baskets!

so do you get crib beds over there?
