I can't do ONE situp... post 3 c-sections. help?

I just got a pilates video, which is how I know I can't do a situp... it is really hard, and makes my muscles shake, but I enjoy it, and have pledged to do it for 2 weeks, and if I still haven't improved as far as sitting up.... i'll do something. I've had 3 c-sections, the first was 8 years ago, the second 6 and the third 4 years ago... had bad nerve pain after the second and third, and the first took 16 weeks to heal, the doc was a hack....

I'm not sure what all the c-sections have done. but even without any, I can't do a sit up either. My muscles are shot. I have had a few kids over the years and never exercised regularly and am not overweight. But mostly, I just don't have any muscle strength anymore and would really need to work hard at it. [And I had terrible muscle strength during pregnancies too] As I said, I went to pilates for , hmm? maybe six months and while a lot of things improved [pelvic floor muscles were MUCH better] I still Could NOT do a sit-up or curl up, or whatever it's called in pilates. I guess I want to be encouraging w/o expecting much. lol

Mine too. I think I have adhesions, but no way to tell unless they open me up again. Pilates was a good suggestion. The exercises aren't jarring and are easy on the body. You'll definitely feel the burn, though. I'd still ask your doctor. Eight years out, you shouldn't have that big of an issue with the muscles.

My skin is numb, too. I don't know what to tell you, OP!

My response:

Normal people can't do situps. Only freaks do situps (at least voluntarily).

Thus, you are normal. You don't want to turn into a freak, so find a more pleasant exercise to do.

Back to regularly scheduled programming....

that makes me feel better. it's the people who CAN do situps who are weird. not us! My skin is numb too, but the incision scar, is very painful to touch, like if the elastic band of my underpants touches it, there's a sharp pain, from that general area... and I know from experience that it's related to the scar being touched... kind of a bummer.

People who do pull ups and climb ropes are even weirder than people who do situps...

Can you do reverse crunches? Lay on your back with knees bent as if you're going to do a sit-up, but lift your legs (knees together) and butt off the ground instead (keep your arms at your sides). Someone else suggested plank exercises; those would be good, too, because they work your core but it's not a sit-up.

I know this post is a bit old, but I have had 2 c-sections and you described my sit-up issue exactly. I have been working out a lot lately and when I am in my classes and look around I am the only one who has to cheat! I can do pretty much everything else, but I do feel that it is out of my control to do a sit up and that is the area I need to work on the most! I just read your post to my husband b/c I couldn't believe that I came across this. I never have even been on one of these forums but I signed up just to respond!
Did you find an answer to if we are crazy or if we have a legit excuse? Hope you found a solution you can share!
