Hello, folks. I'm new to BYC, and you seem like a very knowledgeable group so can someone please help me determine the breed of this little guy? It's name is Buckbeak.

I've never seen a chicken like that but, it's a very pretty chicken.
Perhaps if you took some closer pictures of it's comb, we could rule out the possibility of some breeds.

Ok, I'll see what I can do. It happens to be one of my more elusive chickens but I'll have closer pics up tomorrow evening

I think unquestionably he is the offspring of a Light Brahma parent, but he is a hybrid of some kind. I'm thinking he might be a Light Brahma x Speckled Sussex cross. That would explain both his speckled color, and his pea comb and feathered legs (since the pea comb and the feathered legged genes are dominant over the single comb and clean legged genes in breeding).

P.S. Welcome to BYC!)

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I do not know the breed, but I have to ask...Did you get the name Buckbeak from the Harry Potter series? I named one of my pullet chicks Hermione from the same series.

Enjoy Buckbeak and welcome to our flock!

I'll get some better pics after work this evening for everyone to scrutinize, but a hybrid makes sense. Thanks folks
