I cant handle the flies anymore!!!!

Just be careful with this stuff, it will kill anything that eats it, and probably anything that eats what it killed. Be sure the container is very secure and you other animals cannot possibly get at it, or fly up and knock the container down.

This is a method that my grandmother used to keep flies out of the house. It also has something to do with fresh water. I use DE heavily and it keeps the flies at bay. As for those bags that you fill with water and put the attractant in.. don't waste your money. You are trading the problem of having flies for the smell of dead skunks. It just brings more flies!!

Buy some fly predators. You can find sources online. They won't do anything about the adult flies but they attack pupae and keep them from hatching. If used properly they will keep the flies down to a tolerable level.

Thanks everyone for such great ideas! I have about 60 chickens in the bad run on 1/2 an acre...all fenced with 4 coops and a turkey coop. I will try the plastic bag and penny thing first and hope it works. I am going to try and get another bag of DE and spread it on the dirt also so maybe that will help, so far i have only used it in the coops. Where do you find pine shavings for a large area for a good price? We have a local mill but they have cedar mixed in and i know that cedar is bad bad bad!

Thanks again...keep the ideas coming everyone!

Go with the golden malrin. That stuff works like magic. If you can't find it at your local feed store just google it and you can get a container for about 6 bucks plus postage. Works wonders!

Golden Malrin might be great but I read here on byc that it will kill a full grown coyote 10 feet from where the animal consumed it. Nasty and dangerous stuff that golden malrin seems to be. My advice is that if you choose this route you should be extra extra careful with it around your pets, family, and any wildlife that you might not want to harm. My thought is if that stuff does what people say it does then whatever eats the poisoned insect/critter will also surely die.

I use DE in the duck pen, but all of a sudden I have had TONS of flies even with DE. I picked up 2 rescue fly traps last night at walmart (less than $5 each) and hung one by the duck pen and another one in the apple tree by the back door. Within 2 hours the flies were almost all gone. I saw one near the apple tree and one in the pen. All the rest were trapped in the bag.
