A look at a major southern Plains to mid- and North Atlantic states winter storm, and its similarities to the Feb. 6-7 blizzard of 1967.

The coldest start to an El Nino winter since the '70s, in the wake of the thaw, may have a top 10-15 cold February nationwide.

Seeing the title of this thread made me laugh - But, for us northerners, it isn't exactly the cold. . . (our yearly average is 45 degrees, not much higher and not much lower) It is the constant rain and cloud cover - ugh. I like beautiful birds, and I love feathered feet, tophats, and beards - But the rain, muck, and lack of sunlight does not

We're talking over 120 inches of rain a year, the sun being incredibly low in the sky in the winter (infact half of our 5 acres doesn't even get sun in the summer due to trees) and the temp hovering at 40. It makes you want warm weather, but become intolerant of anything above 70 (for the rare time the temp actually is up there) and shivering when the temp is below 40. (we get about one inch of snow a year in normality)

Yaaay temperate rainforests. . .

Well today my body shop's LP barrel needed filling. $732.00!!! Oh, I am ready to do something drastic. I have slept at my shop 15 days already this winter. If I have to heat this thing I AM getting to work!!! Closed roads.... 4' snow drifts.... I am going to loose it soon!!!!

I really enjoy the winter here. It gives me a break. Enjoy the weather down there. I would hate mowing my yard all winter. To each their own.

Beautiful pictures! Love the snow and once you get into the winter routine, it's not that bad. Heating with wood will get you outdoors and keep you busy and warm! Not looking forward to the mud we had this past weekend returning, had a leak in my coop with all that rain and was wishing it was snowing. My chickens are used to the cold too and I like that I don't have to worry about the heat. You can always put more clothes on, but you can only take so many off is what I always say! Happy winter to all!

Houndit, love the pics! My Ducks do the same thing.... "drinking water, what drinking water? I'm going to bathe in it!" Needless to say it gets very cold here in NW Montana!
Oh and for you Southerner, I was born & raised in Southern AZ, you DO get use to it!

Well....at least its sunny today even if it feels like arctic cold!
They topped off my tank to the tune of a little over $300. But then our house is usually set between 60 and 62, well insulated, so our propane lasts quite a while, even in the frigid temps. Still have about $1000 credit (I pay a little on it all year) so that will take me through spring.

Here in kansas we get hot summers and cold winters anywhere from -15 windchills in winter to 109 heat index in july- early august I cant stand the worst of either but i love it when it's between 40 and 90 with lower humidity and only a light breeze
