when adding birds to my flock i think im making a good buy then ends up being a bad one!!! my cochins which were supposed to be partridge dont seem to be my "awesome barred rocks" barring is smudged and my ameraucana is an EE!!! omg some of these bad purchases were out of inexperience but ive been doing this for over a year now and i still seem to stubble ugh!!

First, I want to say sorry for your bad luck. Secondly, I live in Cloverdale and would liket o know where you are getting these "deals". I don't want to get birds from the same place.

As a general rule, always ask to see pictures of the birds before you commit to buy them. If they are a breed you really, really want make sure you do some research before you set out looking for them. Look up their breed standard, pictures, anything you can find about them to compare the birds to.

i do but it seems like when i get their im like omg they have some better buy them and im like ok and its annoying their just isnt alot of selection where i live and its not the breeders that are doing the bad thing its me...

if the breeder is telling you that you are getting a particular breed and it ends up not being that breed then its their fault not yours. I have to admit Im a sucker for a good deal too but I also dont expect someone to tell me they are selling me something when its really not!! I definitely would not get anything else from them.

ya im a huge sucker they gave me 10 "pure" partridge cochin chicks for $14 i was like COOL and now half of them ended up half
silkie!!!

It sounds to me like you are more particulare than I am about how well your chickens conform to the breed standard. To me if they lay eggs, they are fine, and the variety is nice to look at.

But if you are looking for show quality chickens, you need to curb your impluses, research the breeders, look at what they have, tell them you want show quality and pay the price to get the best.
