A week of baiting, waiting, and hearing imaginary sounds, I finally caught my goose killer!!!

I had a couple of pet raccoons years ago and this guy is ratty compared to the two males I had.

Cat telling the coon,"Dude! You're so busted! Ya shouldn't have messed with Mom!"

Last night, I knew something was out in my backyard. I went to the bathroom and have the window open to listen for noises anytime I've got to go in there. I've busted my fair share of kids and dogs doing things they weren't supposed to be doing while peaking out that window.
I heard a growl. It was my stomach.
The neighbor's AC compressor seemed to stay on for 30 minutes...drowning out small, real noises I could be listening for. I wanted to cut their power for some precious silence. "Take that, you freakin' Popsicles!!"
I finally went to bed at 1am. Dreaming of chicks that will be hatching in a week and letting my mind come up with strange and exotic geese killers caught in my trap.

Okay, so here's the thing, though. This ratty coon explains the goose. But still not my three missing 8 weeks old chicks. I could tell that they had been taken under the fence by the blood and the few scattered feathers. Possibly the feral cats I'd been catching???? That's really the only predator that could fit under that part in the fence. I've seen one of ours squeeze her fat butt under there so I know it's a tight fit. Could it have been a predator "free for all" that dreadful night?

I had already planned on doing that.

Plus, I'm going to start putting my male Border Collie out back with the geese at night. I trust him 100% not to mess with the birds. I would honestly be surprised if there turns out to be more than one additional coon. I would have expected many more lives lost if there had been more raccoons last week. As I mentioned before, I wouldn't doubt if it was the feral cats that took off with the 3 chickens while the coon was after the goose. Who knows, though.

I almost forgot to mention...When I went out to the back of the run to find the raccoon in the trap, the chickens came out of their coop and into the run while the geese were still in there with them! The chickens had always stayed in the coop until I let the geese out. The birds went right up to the trapped raccoon, probably cussing it out. The whole thing stopped me dead in my tracks to see the chickens completely ignoring the geese just to give stink eye to the raccoon.
