I decided that I wanted chicks to keep my flock going. Brooders were expensive, and it's obvious from this message board that they are a hassle. So, I cheated. I waited until one of the hens tried to take a nip at me when I gathered eggs. I used some plywood and chicken wire to isolate the corner of the coop she was in. I also slid a bunch of that day's and the next day's eggs under her (she didn't object to that). Pulled out my old chick feeder and chick waterer, filled the former with show bird food (to compensate for what I presumed would be a lower appetite) and clean water. Replenished food and changed water regularly. A little more than 3 weeks later:




I'm just too stingy and lazy to mess with incubators, I guess.
