Hi,
We are new to the chicken "thing". We got eight chicks at TSC about ten weeks ago. I thought I had a pretty good idea of who the roosters were...eight roo to three pullets :/ Today I was looking at one of the "pullets" and I noticed that her comb and wattles are growing and turning color. We think "she" is an OEGB. From the reading I have done I had understood that pullets won't color up till they are ready to lay wich I though should be 10-11 weels from now at the earliest! So, any help would be appreciated. Are our odds getting worse? Do we need to add another roo to the list? I have found homes for two of the roo and don't know where I am going to find more good homes! Could she just be maturing early? Could they still turn out to be roosters this late in the game?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

That is a pullet. Bantams tend to mature much earlier than large fowl

Whew! I was ready to throw in the towel! Six Roos and two hens would be really bad odds!...five and threes not so great. Glad I don't gamble, except on chicks. Lol. Thank you!!!!!
