I'm very new to owning chickens and have a barred rock that I took in with my Silkies and was wondering roo or hen?

It looks like a hen to me but I could be wrong. I say its a hen because when it comes to barred rocks, they are darker in color and and have a shorter tail. And the way the tail feathers are shape lead me to believe its a hen. How old is it?

I believe 14 or 15 weeks not sure she came to me as a chick

I'm leaning towards cockerel, and not a BR. The pic of the BR in my avatar is 19 weeks, and her comb and wattles weren't that big yet. And her barring was more defined. I'm thinking black sex link, cockerel.

Yeah it might be a rooster . But shouldn't have started crowing if its a rooster?

not necessarily. They start crowing whenever they feel like. I've seen video of week old chicks crowing and heard of cockerels that didn't crow until they were almost a year.

Update he crowed this morning I was guessing on breed would the black sex link have small feathers on the legs
