I cured my wee bantam of Mereks

Stressed chickens typically like to be warm (80F), dark, quiet, with water and food nearby. They will tend to be picked on in the coop. Sometimes, I'll look for one that doesn't pick on them, and let them visit for a social boost.

Does she go for oyster shell? That for calcium, and a little magnesium (molasses, for instance) are great for an energy boost. Sometimes poultry vitamins help with weird hen cravings.
they are eating oyster shells and I put a tablespoon of molasses in their morning feed, which consists of pellets, scrambled egg, oatmeal, apple sauce, watered down nutri-drench, cranberry juice or water. dinner is pellets, scrambled egg if I have any, small chopped garlic clove, carrots, cucumber and a bit of cat food (for right now due to Mareks)

Sounds like a fun, healthy menu.

I should mention that besides a laxative effect, the one problem with molasses is that it has iron, so they can get too much over time, and it can reduce calcium absorption for a bit.

I like to add tumeric, cinnamon, ginger, mint, and sometimes aloe (if they aren't allergic,) and I like to make sure they get some dandelion and red clover. I don't know about echinacea for marek's, but I give some during times of stress. A little seems to help, but I don't use it long.

thanks for the info on molasses, been a hard day of off feed, made her a hammock of fleece to take pressure off her breast bone she woke up at 11:00 pm wanting cucumbers and egg yolk, only thing we did different tonight was add abit of L- lysine to her nightly dose of kali phose and kali sulph. I am just thankful she has something in her crop. this is the first time she has not laid and egg so I know her body is shutting down. tip of waddles are white and comb is pale, also the area around her eyes. keeping her in my room tonight but am so exhausted I could sleep through an earthquake.

I almost suggested L-Lysine, but don't really have much experience giving it to birds. I know it helps me.

Sometimes, they stop laying to save protein when sick, and can start again, later, if they recover. I've seen it with liver problems. The paleness is worrying, though.

she is still alive, eating, drinking, all the normal stuff a bird does, but that leg is still not working

Hello I just wanted to share a success story. My wee girl a speckled bantam was around 10 weeks old when her legs suddenly collapsed under her. One leg shot out to the front and one to the side and she could really only lie on her belly and sometimes get up. we isolated her but she was still hungry and kept eating well. I fed her avocado and cheese high protein and oily food and tomatoes which she loved and kept her water fresh.
After research I saw that Hypericum was good for chickens with this suspect disease so bought some tincture which wasn't correct that was like a brown fluid. After speaking the the nutropath she said put that on her feathers a few drops then she gave me some pistules of hypericum and Rhus Tox. One for viral herpetic treatment. I put the two pills in water which was filtered in two seperate vials. Wait until they dissolve. Just use a small shot glass and fill it up. Each day I held her and gave her 2-3 doses of each which she didn't like too much.
By day 2 she was getting stronger
By day 3 she was standing
By day 4 I let her out she walked and was still wobbly
By day 5 well on the mend
then I just added the pills to her water.
I let her out to play with her buddies so she could socialise I figured if they had the disease they would already have it and I thought that was more important for her to eat grass and scratch.
Well now peanut is a feisty wee girl. I can't believe I nearly got her put down
It's a victory.
Another couple of things I did \
Bathed in epsom salt bath which is good for aching joints
We also made a sling to put her in to take weight off her legs but that was bit weird!

so I just had a D’Uccle start out with a limp and that lasted for 2 weeks and then she just stopped walking all together, I brought her inside and I personally don’t think she has mereks but I tried the hypericum and she is standing in 2 days of treatment. We almost put her down because she was not doing good, but going to keep her in for awhile to make sure she’s 100%. But I want to thank you because I know that medicine helped my little girl❤️
