I will do that if she makes it until morning. I hope and pray she does. Today was the first time we got 25 eggs. It was a great day and then one is found dead and now another with her butt looking the same as the dead one. I had just been to the coop 2 hours before and they were all out in the run and seemed to be fine. I am just heartbroken.

We had this happen a few years back when we tried to integrate a new hen into the flock. Overnight she ate the back flesh of another nearly down to the bone, but we kept the wound clean and she healed completely. The offending hen has been alone in her own cage ever since. I've noticed that hens when attacked instinctively hide their heads, so often it's the vent area that ends up being targeted. Good luck with your situation.

How is your hen today? I hope she is better.

She is still here. She seems to be happy no distress. I went to get her some food and found another one gone. Her but looked the same way. I am just distraught.

Does anyone know what could be causing this.... Please I don't know what to do.... I feel so bad that I was not there for the 2 when they were dying.... I just don't understand this happening to 3 birds at one time.... These are part of the first 15 we got.... I guess the honeymoon is over, as I have heard mentioned on here before....

There has to be a reason and an answer. You may need to sit and observe. Check all the buts to see if they have started on them at all. You can try to give them food to pick at like suet blocks or whole vegetables. I would wonder if they were dying and then being picked on but the one you have obviously was not dead. In that case, then are they dying from being picked on...maybe bleeding to death? Then you would see blood in the coop. Have you checked them for mites/lice? Have you seen any that look like they are lethargic or puffed up or don't feel well? Sorry for all the questions but hopefully we can help you figure this out. If the one hen you have saved doesn't seem to have any other symptoms then I would lean more toward the picking being the cause of death. The ones that were dead...did they have worse wounds than the one you saved?

Thank you! I can barely think let alone type. I am just heartbroken. I hope someone will see this and help me soon. This is the first time raising babies for us and to loose one is heartbreaking but 2 and possibly another is just terrible. I am sitting here crying which I have done for 2 days and just can't seem to stop. We don't have children, which explains why we are so attached to our babies.
