I did my 5 broadbreasted bronze yesterday.

can I ask a touchy question? I haven't slaughtered birds since I was a kid, and I've got a couple of rather frightful memories of how that went. how do you do the deed?

Machete and stump. And a lot of prayers that it would be fast for them and I wouldn't get my fingers. And it was very fast.

I hang them by the feet and use a buck knife. I don't like to do it, and will gladly let someone else if there is anyone available, but I can do it when I need to.

They could well have been. Just makes me feel like mine are tiny. I always spend the summer worrying and wondering if they will get big enough. Then once they are dressed and weighed I am happy.

Nice to hear they were good eating!

I had noticed that most of the chicken and turkeyin the grocery stores is injected with some salty solution; my boys complain about the very salty gravy and I didn't add any salt!! Yuk!
