Hey, guys. Today, I was thinking about how my chickens are always being loud when they are in their run. So, I realized that they’re much quieter when they free range. So, I brought the free ranging to them. I partially covered most of their run with 3 strips of some sod. They love it! I’m posting this forum to one: tell the news. Two: ask if this is such a good idea. Is there any chemicals that can harm them? If so, please tell me. Thanks in advance! Also, happy new year!

Here they are enjoying their sod.

Yes chemicals can certainly be a problem. So dunno guess that would be a question for the sod people. I love love the idea. Watch too for crop impaction. Chickens can be piggy’s and not know when enough is enough. Long grass scares the doo doo outta me only because I had to deal with crop impaction/sour crop over it.
Make sure there’s lots of grit. Be vigilant in checking crops. I use straw so I’m in the same boat I check mine (crops) often. I see mine eating little pieces of straw from time to time but thankfully no ones pig’d out on it. Best wishes

I would not give my bird commercial sod.
It's very likely got pesticides and/or fungicides and/or fertilizers.

Tho crop impaction from sod is unlikely as much as any long loose strands of green grasses.
