I wandered out with treats and all but 1 girl came running. My 1 yr old Maran is busy sitting on eggs in the nest box. When I took some treat to her she ate it, but then sounded like she was 'purring.'

Her 'sister' was watching me pretty closely too, almost protectively. Could she have gone broody because I didn't get the eggs yesterday? I'm fine with this, and would even gladly go get chicks to slip under her if she wants to be a Mama. Should I wait and watch for a few days first?

We have no roo, so the eggs are not fertile.

Give her a couple of days, if she sits tight to the nest and grumbles if you try to move her chances are good she is broody. You could take her eggs and slip her some fake eggs or I just used golf balls and if she keeps sitting then get her some fertile eggs. She may get down to eat and drink but would get back to her nest if she is broody.

Well shoot, she was just out in the yard.... I went and got the eggs, there were 6. Is it common for them to sit on them if they see an accumulation? I normally get the eggs everyday and just didn't yesterday.

I've been told that when they go broody there are hormones involved, but sometimes they get like yours, they are kind of thinking about it

but don't quite go all the way. I have a BO that is like that right now, shell sit on them, sometimes just her own, for a few hours then get off. Shell walk around with her feathers puffed out and talking a lot. I do pull her off when I see her like that. Then some days she doesn't do it all. It's been like this off and on for a month now.
