I didn't know how depressing egg hatching could be!!

If at first you don't get the results you want and then don't try again, You loose! Which is to say We could lose a friend here. I do not recall that having ever happend. And frankly I hope it never does. There are so many wonderfull people here along with so much available help, that a poor 1st hatch should not deture you. Everyone will be pleased to help. Like ALL of us, just try again.
Happy hatching.

I have 28 eggs in the bator right now with a May 2nd hatch date for most...this thread has made me very nervous! It's my first time incubating eggs. They are just mixed eggs from our flock, but I'm still excited about adding to our flock.
Rest assured, if they fail to hatch or if I only get a few, I will try try again! I hope you do too!

I ordered Ameraucana and Silkie eggs for a breeding project that grew on me. Four of 14 Silkie eggs hatched, and 4 of 9 Ameraucana eggs hatched. I am thrilled! I have what I need to continue my project! The numbers may say I had an "unsuccessful" hatch, but that's not what my spirit says. Don't let the numbers get you down!

you guys are great!!! I will keep plugging along and hoping for the best. I remember when I started I was thinking I needed to start with quite a few eggs, because and few won't hatch and then 1/2 will be roosters. I guess I need to take the smaller steps first

Hopefully tomorrow eggs will start pipping

and I will be richer a couple more chicks.

I need to post a picture of the brooder I have in the living room with the 2 store bought Silver Laced Wyandottes (yeah I broke down and bought 2 chicks this past week. Couldn't stand seeing that brooder with nothing in it!!) Anyway it looks like a special doggie TV show. Although we humans find it very entertaining too

Last year I hatched eggs from my own flock just to test the waters so to speak and it went well. I think it's all that hybrid vigor or mutt eggs.. This season I wanted to use shipped eggs and get a feel for that. I ordered a dozen plus from San Diego and set them with a few volunteers from my flock to fill the incubator. Of the shipped 5 hatched and I was thrilled. Then I received 18 eggs from Idaho and set those. A few weeks ago 16 hatched.. I keep notes to reflect on but in any case I am very happy so far with the results. I have a Brinsea ECO 20 w/auto turner and my biggest issue is getting a good temp & humidity reading. I have the non digital incubator and the glass thermometer is hard for my eyes to see clearly

I added digital readers and it's just too dark. Now I am thinking of the reader with a remote sensor might be better. In any case I just set 10 eggs I picked up at a local swap to hopefully increase my LF Salmon Faverolle group. I sort of follow the rule of "if anything hatches" I am thrilled. I always add a few mutts so if I get one shipped to hatch it will hopefully have mates to grow with.

Please DISABLE the fans on hatch day if they are on the floor, I have one chicke that will never forgive me for leaving it on!!! (she's just fine)

Good idea, both of you. - make mental note; keep fan out of chick reach!!
