I don’t know how I missed this so long !

You can float, but that's not going to tel you much.
I'dnot bother withthem ata those temps.
But..if you must...
When in doubt....
Open eggs one at a time in a separate dish before adding to pan or recipe,
use your eyes, nose, and common sense to decide if egg is OK to eat.

..and might want to...
Free range birds sometimes need to be 'trained'(or re-trained) to lay in the coop nests, especially new layers. Leaving them locked in the coop for a week or so can help 'home' them to lay in the coop nests. Fake eggs/golf balls in the nests can help 'show' them were to lay. They can be confined to coop and maybe run 24/7 for a few days to a week, provided you have adequate space and ventilation, or confine them at least until mid to late afternoon. You help them create a new habit and they will usually stick with it. ..at least for a good while, then repeat as necessary.

Orpingtons. They are as big as my leg horn but they are laying tiny eggs. I assume they will get bigger in time but I don’t remember my leg horn’s laying small eggs at first
I had an Orpington that always laid smallish eggs compared to my leghorns. Big hen, small eggs.
With stealth eggs, I open them and if they look ok, feed to the chickens scrambled.

Maybe so but all of these kids are laying Tiny eggs. they’re not even as big as a medium sized egg at the store. Maybe we will just have four tiny egg layers that eat just as much is my leg horns LOL

I check the yard religiously. I do come across eggs where they shouldn't be- but feel sure they are no more than a couple days old - and I don't have a rooster. Still, I give them to the dogs. Really makes their coats shiny.
