I don't know if this type of sand is safe for my chick brooder

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I would recommend using only a coarse river sand or construction sand with many small pebbles and different sized particles in it. Chicks have been know to mistake fine sand for food and ingest it, causing it to impact their crops. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You have to be careful with sand in the brooder. Chicks can eat it thinking it is food and fill up enough on it to kill them. So wait until these chicks are old enough to introduce sand.

And yes, sand is dusty I use it in my coop and run. I keep the coop windows open all the time and of course the run is also very airy. Too much breathing in of this dust can cause respiratory ailments.

Good luck and welcome to our flock!
