My little Peanut has sat faithfully and yesterday we were rewarded with a hatch.
Her nest is up in some bushes behind the house. I didn't want to disturb her but was able to get a peek yesterday evening and there were four perfect pretty little ducklings.
I figured hatch was still happening so I left her to be.
This morning, Peanut is out on the water with the rest of the flock and no sign of any ducklings.
There's 2 I can see on the nest that didn't make it. But no sign of any others.
I'll have to get someone to help me get back there and clear out the nest.
Can an inexperience mother duck smoother her ducklings? Is that a thing?
I'm so broken hearted.
Edited to add: My stepson helped me clear out the nest. We found 2 with yolks sacks not fully absorbed that didn't make it and 5-6 unhatched eggs. No sign of any living ducklings.
