A day ago, I was given some chickens to hatch, incubate, and raise from a friend. They let me borrow their incubator (Nurture Right 360), but I have never incubated eggs before. I followed her instructions on what to do and have started the incubation process (they have been incubating for a day now). I thought the incubator would rotate on its own, but it hasn't been doing that. I made sure the plug was in and I pressed the + and - buttons at the same time, it rotated, but I don't want to have to rotate it manually every hour. I would like to get it to rotate on its own. These eggs all combined are like $285 (I don't know if that is high for most breeders and eggs, but I would like that not to go down the drain) and I would prefer not to kill them. HELP!
On another note, I rescued some ducklings and if anyone on here knows how to care for them, that would be helpful. They are mallard ducks, and they are 3 days old. We found them on the road, and they were all alone. We stayed by them for a good hour and there was no mama duck. We called some bird rescue places, and they said that the only birds they will rescue are Eagles and Falcons, but not ducks because they are too common. I have a friend (the same friend who gave me the eggs to incubate) who has helped me get the right heater, food, and bedding for them. But they still seem really scared and won't let people go near them. Am I doing anything wrong or is that normal? They are eating, drinking and moving around but seem scared still, I have had them for almost 1 day now.
Sorry, this is long, but I wanted to know if anyone on here had any suggestions on what to do.
