So right now I live in the city, so I can only have 4. I just found that out because the people that right the laws in this city suck at giving out information. So I have five chickens three 1 1/2 years old and two 5weeks old. I was thinking of asking the neighbors about have some in their yard, but if I bought more hens they would be about 9-10weeks old. Plus I am thinking one of the chicks is a rooster so I can't just put him in with one or two. And I really don't want to sell him! And I don't want to spit him and the other chick he is with.

I don't know what to do, unless I just separate them.

Does anyone have any advice?

Finding laws and ordinances like this can be hard.

how long have u had more than 4 chickens? If u have had them for a while with no problems then u could probably keep 5+. As long as the neighbors are happy u probably wont get caught. I wont say I am encouraging u to go against the ordinance, but it happens often enough.
In the case of a rooster, unless the neighbors are going to put up with loud cock-a-doodling throughout the day, it isn't realistic to keep a rooster in town, and most cities don't allow it. I'm surprised mine does actually.
that's my take on it anyhow

Sell the two little chicks and just keep your current hens. If you're limited to 4 birds, no way you're going to be able to keep a rooster. Don't worry about the extra grown hen for now, you've had her over a year and apparently things are okay.

I don't know. In my city it is ok to keep roosters, they haven't gotten rid of them yet. But it does seem really unfair to our next-door neighbors, they work several jobs and are normally pretty tired. Plus I think my Dad might have me sell him anyway. So I think I might just end up selling them but I was thinking of asking the neighbors is I can keep some in their yard, if they say yes, then i'll buy some 9 - 10 week old pullets

thanks for the advice

Why do you need more chickens? Honestly, the responsible thing to do would be do sell the chicks - especially if one is a rooster and you have neighbors that work a lot and need their sleep. It's tough having to work around other people, but good relations with one's neighbors is a good thing.
