I don't know what to do. My duck has been sitting on eggs for a while, and they were starting to smell. On a hunch I open one up, and it was completely rotten. I don't know what to do with the other eggs. The nesting duck is in a bush, and is hard to access. I could take out all of the eggs, but doing this would cause much stress for the duck, and to remove them, I would have to remove the duck as well. She is very protective of her eggs, and doing much tampering with them would distress her. My fear is however, with leaving the eggs alone is A, they explode and B, she will wait for her dead eggs to hatch, and will be nesting forever. Please help! I am a new duck owner, and I have never experienced this before. I appreciate all feed back.

Not having ever had this issue, my suggestion is likely pointless but if I were in this position I would buy a few duck eggs from someone (fakes if need be for now) and when she is off to eat for a few, swap them out. Ultimately, it is pointless and surely unhealthy at some level to leave them there to burst beneath her, so if no other options, I too would remove them and destroy the nest. I doubt she will be upset long.

I appreciate the feed back. I think I am going to move her back to the coup. I am just wondering what the signifigance is of the fake duck eggs.

Well, I moved her yesterday. It not difficult to get her off of her nest, but boy! She wants to get back to it. Every time I open the door to give her water, she will try to run for it. I have opted not to let her out for the next couple of days to give her time to calm down, and so she will not run back to her nest. Thank you so much for all of the help and support!!
