I got four , two week old brown marsh daisy chicks a week ago and I don't like them : (
I choose them because they look beautiful and were supposed to be a calm breed!
OM.G these chicks can burst eardrums
They won't be held
And they are so fast I struggle to catch and hold them

Funny how things turn out I really thought I'd love this breed, I can see why they are so rare! Pain in bum :barnie

No matter what breed you have, if you do not put effort into making them calm, they will be wild and crazy. :(

The best way to tame chickens is to hand feed them. I am sorry you do not like them. :(

Hi Pinkaboo and
welcome-byc.gif

I am so sorry they didn't work out for you. Ok take a look at this pic of Brown Marsh Daisy. is this what you were expecting your chicks to be when they grew up?

All is not lost. Colors very similar to this are available in lovely old heritage breeds. Take the New Hampshire for instance. A couple of years ago a stunning German import strain was imported to the US. Kept pure or crossed with US strains it is a real stunner. The birds are not only beautiful, they are easy to be around. Plus there is a group of dedicated, German New Hampshire breeders who are very knowledgeable right here on BYC. Here is a thread about them on BYC. Take a look at post 78 of 1511. Color is in the same family of hues. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/581950/german-new-hampshire/70

Check and see if the German strain is in the UK, if not the original color scheme is only a bit less Stunning.
Lovely pictures of New Hampshire poultry !

No, the UK chicks don't have the chipmunk stripe down their backs. That's because they are built on a different genetic locus then the US and German strains. Not a problem tho, the adult color is the same.

Thank you very much for that, yes the image is how my daisy would look fully grown
I will certainly check out the New Hampshire and hopefully might be able to find some over here
And my daisy will be going to the market on the 21st June
my legbars and bresse will fall asleep on my while a stroke them
But the daisy squawk like crazy till my ears hurt!

Hi
I'm fortunate that I'm retired early so I spend all day with the chickens ( lucky me) almost makes it worth while being ill.
Out of the four different breeds, cuckoo Maran cream legbar and bresse galoise, Daisy's
The daisy are the only ones to go crazy, they are so fast, like road runner beep beep
I hold then, feed them, stroke them, talk to them
They are not having any of it!
And the noise! Oh my goodness how can something so small be so loud?

I admit they are the most attractive out of the four breed , but I'm certain they are not for me ,

The silkie is for you. You want the silkie. Get you a silkie. Silkie. silkie. silkie...

I hope I don't get banned from BYC but I don't think I like silkies( can't believe I've said it!)
I love frizzles, but silkies aren't attractive looking to me, saying that I'm sure some are adorable
Like my pink one

I'm having the same issue with my Australorp - squawk, squawk, squawk this AM until I got up to let them outside. All the others patiently wait but not this guy. And yes, I am actually hoping its a boy. ;-)
