I have access to tone of corrigated barn metal, and I was wanting to built a coop from it, but I dont see any coops built from it.

Is it alright to use or is there a problem with using it?

Thanks:^}

How HOT will it get in a meal coop? Without insulation, proper shading and ventilation, you may end up with an oven instead of a coop.

Since you are getting that material free, I would figure out a way to make it work. Paint it a light color...properly insulate...good windows.... I think it can be done.

The horse barn we built our coop into is made out of corrigated galvanized metal, we just put 3/4" Styrofoam insulation on the inside walls and wood panels over it. We have 1 wall panel that we take off in the summer to allow for extra air movement inside. It has chicken wire on the backside. You can see the early stage of our coop on my page.
Use it, better to recycle than have added expense.

I noticed your from Texas. I would't build the whole coop out of metal especially here in Texas it gets to hot. Here's a coop I built that has alot of metal in it. Its a three sded coop the run is facing east so it gets morning sun & is shaded in the afternoon. Plus, the prevailing SE wind helps keep it cool . The north & west walls of the coop are totally sealed to keep the hard northers from blowing on the birds.

Its hard to see in this picture. But the top & the backwall & half of the north wall are metal.

I wouldn't have a problem using that type of material if I had plenty of it. It might be a litlle bit hotter in the summer months but if it has adequate ventilation it would probably work well. When I was a kid my Dad put up a 3 sided covered roost with nesting boxes in it. There was a large run built around it. The open side was facing east (we rarely get east winds or rain coming out of the east) and we never had a problem with it. In South GA it just doesn't get very cold. The metal didn't come all the way to the bottom so it was ventilated well.

My wife wants john deere colors, and venting wont be that hard. I could probably build shutters, that are open in the summer and closed in the winter,and during bad weather, Just thinking here:^}
