First time I did a hatch, Skip looked into the bator window to see if we had any pips or zips. He came out to the livingroom and says, "I think your auto-turner needs to be oiled, it's making a funny noise.".

So we make our feed store run, get home and the first thing I do is check the bator. That squeeking noise he was hearing just so happened to be an early hatcher!

Happy Hatching!

They'll chirp once they pip through the air sack......might take a day for them to actually pip through the shell, and several hours to unzip. But if your incubation was spot-on, it shouldn't take that long.

It's a sweet sound, isn't it!!

I've heard them start talking before they even pip. I love the sound of a soon to hatch baby! When checking eggs (especially late ones that didn't hatch yet, and I think I'm done) and I hear that faint little peep peep peep, then I know they're alive!

"I don't understand chirping"

I've got a copy of "Rossetta Stone for Chickens" coming. It was expensive but I'm sure it will be worth it. The actual Rossetta Stone website did not have it so I had to order it from a seller on eBay with the user id of "Gotugud". He told me it would take 5-6 weeks to ship (it ships out of Nigeria so the wait is understandable) and only accepts cash well concealed in envelope and mailed to a dropbox in Atlanta. I'm really looking forward to it!
