I feel awful

I was trying to give one of my hens some rooster booster cause she has been under the weather (don't know what is wrong with her). She is currently in a playpen inside. Yesterday I gave her oral medicine and it went great she seemed to perk up a bit and her comb looked better, but the person usually that holds her is out of town. So I had someone else do it and they aren't experienced holding chickens.

I was too scared to give her straight by injecting it straight into the esophagus cause I was trying to make this as foolproof as possible, so I have been doing little at a time at the side of her beak so she could swallow on her own. Well, she squirmed a little bit while me doing that and the person holding her wasn't expecting it and she threw her head back and got some in her trachea. She's been sneezing gently at first (more frequently) when I first put her down but she was still pecking around. She never choked while I was giving it to her. It was about 1ml worth give or take since some of it was on my hand. I don't know how much she got in there.

Now her sneezes sound more violent, but happening at like 5-10 minute intervals. I scrambled up some eggs, she pecked at them for a bit and seemed interested. Then laid down (she was not really keen on eating before this whole medicine thing), so now I feel like I already made her so much worse than before. I am terrified I just asphyxiated my chicken trying to help her, she is my favorite hen too. I feel like a terrible person. It's been about 2-3 hours so far. I know there isn't anything I could do besides wait. :(

It could be that the vitamin/electrolyte drops were so strong, and it irritated her trachea more than plain water would have. I would just try to hold water up to her beak often, and dip her beak to get her to take some and swallow. I use a small cup or a tuna/canned cat food can as well. Hopefully she will feel some better tomorrow. Do you know what might have been making her feel poorly? How old is she? Does she lay eggs, or have a lowered tail? Are her droppings normal? Is there any signs of a respiratory infection such as watery/bubbly eye, gasping, rattly breathing (before she choked?)

Thank you so much for replying! That makes me feel better cause I have felt so guilty about it. I went to go check on her, when she is resting/sleeping she isn't sneezing/coughing and the room is silent. I cannot hear her breath until she gets into one of those episodes.I will totally try that, thank you!

Saturday she was completely fine, she was acting herself.

Sunday morning is when we noticed something was wrong, her comb was pale and flopped over. She would walk a couple of steps and then lie down. So we gave her some of the rooster booster and she perked up a lot in a matter of minutes. Not herself, but a lot better! Her comb started standing up straighter and had more red in it. She was even walking around a bit. She has been pecking around but not really eating.

This morning (Monday) it was more or less the same as Sunday post first dose, and then the whole medicine thing happened.

Sunday she started having diarrea, it was mostly white with wet brown in it with a slight green/yellow around the edges. The pictures of the poop are from today before I gave her vitamins. I did notice towards the end of the day her comb had a slight purple hue at the very back (oxygen?) but she had zero labored breathing before the medicine drama.

Shes been drinking normally on her own before the vitamin thing. I walked in to check on her just now and stood there with the lights off for a while and she wasn't doing her coughing/sneezing, when she was asleep. But then I turned on the lights and she started doing it again. I turned them off and quickly left so I don't irritate her throat more!

Her crop is hard to tell cause she did eat feed earlier this morning. Today I am restricting the feed to see in the morning if I can feel a hard or sour crop.

In panic of the medicine drama I did order her some bird Amoxicillin with USPS express shipping!

She is 1 years old and she has been laying prior to feeling bad. She hasn't laid since putting her inside! Her eyes look clear as of now!

Her tail looks up in the pics. Once you check her crop in the morning when it should be empty and hard to feel, offer some very water chicken feed and some bits of egg. That can get more water into her. Could she be dehydrated from the heat? Let us know how she is doing in the morning.

Yeah her tail has been upright thus far! I left her scrambled eggs in there with her but she hasn't ate any yet. She is still coughing but it was less violent than last time, and I felt like it took longer than it did before she coughed. I found her laying by her water with electrolytes and apple cider (in case of sour crop).
It actually hasn't been hot the past couple days! Cooler than usual, It's been 80 degrees at the highest but she is in a air controlled room now!
