Ok, I have a chihuahua and a shih-tzu mix puppy. I don't trust the stupid chihuahua around my chickens, so when they are out of their run and coop he gets chained up by the front door. My puppy is smaller than my chickens, and hasn't ever paid any attention to them, so stupid me, I wasn't worried about her. I let all my chickens out to free range in our yard today, which is just under 2 acres but completely fenced in. I let the little babies out of their tractor too, so the big girls could get used to them because I am planning on moving them in with the big girls this weekend. They never go more than 10 feet or so from their tractor because they stick together and there are 6 cornish x who are too lazy to go very far. There is also an 8 week silkie, a 7 week EE, 2 5 week old leghorns, and 2 3 week old khaki campbell ducklings. I went back inside for a few minutes to check on my baby who was inside asleep.

When I came back out the puppy and the chihuahua were both together chewing on my poor duckling who died a few minutes later.

I am guessing the puppy chased the duckling up to the f***ing chihuahua who killed it. I feel so bad, should never have left them alone for a minute. And now I have one lonely duckling I either have to find company for or a new home.
Anyone know anyone without chickens who wants a butt ugly murdering chihuahua?
Guess I just needed to vent,

thanks everyone.

My mom came to live with us this last spring and brought her chihuahuas .... grrrr, they are the WORST little chicken-chasing @#$%$ I've ever seen! Who would think something so small could be so predatory?!

As the owner of chihuahuas I think you Should rehome yours, you obvs do not like the dog at ALL and I don't think it's All because he May have killed your duckling, sounds like you didn't like him before, so please rehome him cause he deserves to be in a home where he is loved......if he was the one that got it, he was doing what a lot of dogs do, mine happen to love chicks etc but my other dog will kill one in a min so I have to be really careful that he doesn't have the chance, when chickens are loose he is IN

My chihuahuas would never harm anything, so it is not all chihuahuas, mine are loose a lot with my chickens and chicks and dont pay any attention

We have four dogs, St. Bernard, Chow, Rat Terrier mix ( who love's to chase wild birds) and a chihuahua. You guessed it, the only one who messes with the chickens is the chi, she is smaller then the chickens! I have some new chicks that I will have to lay the law down about when I let them meet.

Generally, dogs cannot be trusted around chickens unattended. Rarely, a dog comes along that is absolutely OK with poultry, but that is a rare thing indeed. You learned a hard lesson today. The upshot is that you probably won't lose any more birds to your dogs because you know the dogs cannot be trusted around your birds.

Sorry for your loss. Good luck.

Wow, that's just obnoxious and uncalled for, Bengal ... the OP needed to vent, NOT be criticized by someone who doesn't even know the OP OR the dog in question (and no, not ALL dogs are little angels) and just makes ASSumptions based on the OP's understandable frustration ... guess you've never been frustrated with a pet before, but we're not ALL that perfect ...

Why yes I have been frustrated with my big dog when he killed my chickens .......I knew it was my fault and I can tell by reading her post that she hates that chihuahua and did before it killed....time to rehome the little guy so he gets the love he deserves, all involved will be better off ....and I know more than anyone not all dogs are angels , not sure where you got that idea, my chihuahuas would never hurt an animal, so don't appreciate them all being stereotyped as killers, thats all ! Chilllll
