Howdy everyone!
I finally took the step and bought myself some chickens! I bought five pullets; 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Barred Rock, and 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes. Drove 8 hours round trip and to two different feed stores to get exactly what I wanted, and it was worth it! I'll post pictures and updates as they come along, but now I'm just enjoying the fun.
Update: I'm pretty sure that I just put my chicks on a workout regimen. ANY treat that I occasionally throw in there results in an endless game of keep away.

And....WOAH! You have feed stores that sell PULLETS? :th I would be in so much trouble if it was that easy for me to get already started chickens! Having to start out with high needs babies keeps me somewhat in check!

I started on a layer flock this year. I have 5 EE, 3 Turkens, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Black Australorp, and 2 Cream Legbars (also have 2 EE and 2 CL roos). So far, my Buff Orpington pullet is my favorite. Hope yours turns out as sweet as mine. I've only raised bantams in the past, and I must say these girls (and boys) can flat put the food away.

I thought all female chicks were called pullets up until they were 1 year old. Either way, I have day old chicks and they are a handful!

That's awesome! Everyone is getting along fine over here, and the Orpington, who is the oldest, seems to be leading the rest. She goes to get water, they follow her. She starts digging around, everyone else tries to find out why. She has also figured out how to glide pretty far, might need to put wire over everything already!

I've been hatching OEGB since March, so I have chicks everywhere. I've just mixed my LF chicks in with bantam batches as they have hatched, more by age than size. They all get along great. My little game learn how to fly early on, so keeping everyone where they are supposed to be gets to be a challenge sometimes.

Oh, whew, you scared me! I was thinking I might have to move close to that kind of feed store! :) and yes, they do call the females 'sexed pullets' but I always think of pullets as teenage birds. :) I hope you have a blast with the wee ones! They grow up in a flash!

To be honest, at first I put "female chicks," but then I went "Nah I'll try and sound smart" lol. I kinda get the same image in my head when I hear "pullets."
