Hey y'all! I've been sort of lingering on this wonderful site for quite some time and today I finally joined! I'm a proud owner of four lovely pullets (Brahma, Australorp, EE, and White Crested Black Polish) and a breeder of African Pygmy Hedgehogs. I'm looking forward to reading and posting on BYC! Just thought I'd throw all this out there

and introduce myself!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Lively mix of birds you have there. I have a couple of white crested black polish ladies and I have to say they are real characters and partners in crime too!! They are my most noisiest chickens in my flock. They scream for attention. I too would love to see some pics of your hedgehogs I bet they are super cute.

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future. Enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining.) You have a nice mix of breeds. The first breed I ever had were Brahmas (50 years ago) and they were gentle giants. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Well thank you!

Ours haven't started laying yet but I'm looking forward to the nice variety in the eggs. Brahmas and Australorps are definitely sweet hearts!

Okay me too. Would love to see the hedgehogs? Do they really make good pets? I picture them as walking pin cushions - can you safely interact with them?

Here's a pic of Lucy (it loaded correctly on my phone but hopefully you can see it)

They make really good pets if they are handled correctly. They're quills only hurt when they roll into a ball to defend themselves, or when they're startled. They very rarely bite and we have two right now that LOVE they're belly and face scratched!
