I found a Chukar

I found a Chukar sitting on my porch. Beautiful Bird. I want to keep him healthy and happy. Not sure if I need or want to "cage" him or let him roam. I live in a neighborhood and believe he escaped from a hunting preserve.

can you easily catch him? is he tame? if he's very wild I would just leave him. where do you live? are there wild chukars in your area? if he's tame and hungry, help him

If you plan on keeping him, consider these things:
1. a large run
2. a female friend
3. a loving home!

He walks away as I approach. I'm in Western PA, south of Pittsburgh. I've never seen a Chukar, had to check the internet to see what it was!!

they're gorgeous birds! if you want to help him but not catch him, you can sprinkle birdseed. 99.9% sure that he's escaped from the hunting preserve. they should be fine in your winter. since its not a native bird where you live, you can catch and keep it. good luck with your new pet!

Not sure if I can commit to keeping him and being fair to his health and welfare. I have 3 (inside) domestic birds already and only a neighborhood "lot". I love animals, especially birds and just want to make sure he is safe. Think I should try to capture and give him to rescue?
