This is exactly the reason my father will not tell anyone except family that they have seen ivory billed woodpeckers on their place -- they do not want to be overrun with media personnel, birdwatchers, conservationists, etc. It was enlightening to say the least when they were found to be alive in northern Arkansas, and Dad doesn't want a repeat of that circus on their property. And btw, as for where they live, I must politely state that it is NOYB.

I found a turkey rock the other day! Unfortunately some animal got to it before I did...who would eat a rock?

now that is just WAY too cool, and you durn skippy I would keep it under my hat! One peep and you lose all control over your life, your future, your invetments, your ability to make a living, practically your right to vote and your first born child. Just enjoy the birds and don't endanger them. And don't keep images on your computer hard drive either, or send any to the photomat for developing.

I say keep it when it hatches, if its a wood duck, tons of people have them anyway. If it turns out to be a different kind, let it free range, but make sure it is imprinted on you so that it wont leave, but it looks like you are allowing it to do so if it wants to. We had a cat bring a duckling home, no one in the area had ducks other than us and there are 2 ponds with nesting ducks nearby that it couldve come from, it turned out to be a mallard and ended up dying. One time we went to the park and there were two juvinile mallards in the creek. We ended up catching them, they were really calm, almost like someone let them loose, which is possible because the feed stores sell mallard ducklings all the time. We got them home and the neighbor wanted them so she took them home and her dads dog killed them.
