I went to take a look at a cabinet incubator that was advertised locally, and the seller told me I could have it for free if i'd hatch him some quail and pheasants! It was a deal! It came with three egg turners and three hatching trays. I brought it home, plugged it in, and it is all working but I have a temperature issue. I can't get it to heat above 85F but the thermostat is turned up all the way. Is this more likely to be a thermostat or element issue?

Em is right, I would replace both.

The heating elements are cheap, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The thermostats can get expensive, depending on whether it has the wafers or digitals.

You may end up putting close to $100 into it, but that is still a great bargain.

I believe it's a wafer; it's a metal disc about 3" diameter located near the thermostat box.

Start with the wafer and work your way up. That would be so cool if you just needed the new wafer. Congrats on a great find!

You lucky dog you, good for you!!!.

have you replaced the thermometer? I would try that first before changing anything else.
then if mot that go onto the nest likely prospect.

The L is how you adjust the temp. The more you screw it out the higher the temp. The wafer is attached to that.

It should have 2 thermostats. 1 is a back up.

If you know the make and model number you should be able to look up the plans and instructions for it online. Especially if it is a GQF.

There are two thermometers built into it, and I put a third wireless one inside.
