I got a free cabinet incubator today!!!

I believe the L-shaped allen wrench is the temperature control for the wafer thermostat. I used a borrowed incubator last year and was told to turn the L-shaped handle one direction to raise the temperature in the incubator and the other direction to lower the temperature. Have you tried turning it? Maybe someone on the forum knows the correct way to turn up the temperature??

That is your adjusting screw for the wafer. The wafer in fact screw into that piece. I would replace the wafer even if it works now and at the very least get a spare. they can be bad in old unused incubators. Are you sure there isnt two of them? Many incubators have two one is a back up.

HOp I helped a bit. Some will have an electronic thermostat as well as a wafer.

The L is how you adjust the temp. The more you screw it out the higher the temp. The wafer is attached to that.

It should have 2 thermostats. 1 is a back up.

If you know the make and model number you should be able to look up the plans and instructions for it online. Especially if it is a GQF.

I think I have an adjustable screw loose sometimes! I've been adjusting a black twisty knob attached to the shiny black box. I wonder what that does? It's homemade with GQF parts.

If you are turning something that is the thermostat and not turning the L shaped handle you are really in luck you have an electronic thermostat with a wafer back up. If the wafer is stuck or has not been adjusted it is likely your problelm. Electric thermostat is about one hundred sixty dollars.

good luck

YOu are in such luck the black twisty thing is the electronic thermostat. the other is your back up

adjust the wafer all the way out as far as it can go. Or take it out if you wish. Adjust the electronic thermostat to the desired temp and then adjst the wafer slightly higher than that.

Or more correctly once you are sure the wafer is working you can adjust it to just over one hundred degrees and then the electronic one to 99,5

Yay!!! I feel like such a dork! Luckily I hadn't ordered spare parts! You know what's really bad, and i'm almost too ashamed to admit...

The guy who gave it to me (who found it in his barn) told me the L-shaped thing adjusted the temperature, and I thought he was nuts.

Do I leave the black twisty thing alone, and just use the L-shaped key?

No the twisty thing is the primary thermostat. The wafer is secondary. The wafer is adjusted too low. The electronic one may not be working but I doubt it. Turn the L shaped thing out as far as you can and then adjust the twisty thing

the black twisty thing is your main thermostst. it could be a 10 turn one, one full turn only changes your temp 1.7 degrees that could be y you are having a hard time getting the temp up. get a good theremoter it will help a lot.
