Hello, we have 6 chickens, 1 rooster, 6 ducks, and 3 geese. My daughter is VERY good at sexing our birds.
She looked at your goose and believes it's a boy. There are a few things to look for in ducks and geese and one of them is their tail if it points up or curls up it's a boy if it's flat or points a little down it's a girl.
Also boys necks are a little thicker, boys are a little larger than girls, and boys are prettier.
It's easier to tell them apart if you have one of each sex to compare.
We have African Geese they are similar to Chinese Geese in size and shape. Ours are brown an gray and have that signature bubble on their bill.
We hatched 1 in an incubator in early spring, he hung around with ducks and was pretty happy about this. But then I hatched 2 more and when I introduced them to him I was astonished he became very protective over them. Honking and calling them to follow him, always looking after them protecting, them from the ducks and chickens.
We have 6 kids and only recently I noticed the leader male putting his head down and hissing at my little ones 8 and under. He won't do this to anyone else. I think if the birds are used to people playing outside and being around them then they get used to people and won't see them as a threat. They will eat from our hands but don't like to be handled much.
We let our birds roam freely on our land. Unfortunately this spring we lost a few birds from predators. But since having our geese we haven't had any problems, they are very protective. I think even the ducks and chickens know this because they all hang around the geese for protection.
The only drawback is the droppings in the yard. We've gotten used to it by now and don't mind it much. Our grass is a lot nicer and with out any chemical fertilizers!
