She sounds like the certified trimmer woman I had. She was equally as good with my girls as well as becoming my friend over time.

She charged $40 I gave her $50. Told her that I appreciated her service and the wealth of knowledge she brought with her.

Eggs? Had'em out on the counter top when we came in for coffee. Yes! Coffee. here in S La you don't go no where's and visit nobody without getting or giving a cup of coffee. Any how I digress. While walking Cody she spied my chicken operation, then informed me that she had bought so laying hens. We exchanged info on that, so I knew she didn't need any eggs.

By the way a few things that may be worth mentioning-------

Rope halter is off.

Yeah! I know I will probably catch it, but honesty has worked so far. I had not taken the halter off because I had not had the oppourtunity to take it off and put it back on, and take it off and put it back on and take it off and put it back on. You know like practice. I had figured Cody would tolerate some of my inept fooling around but he ain't much on having his head messed with. I had kinda figured if things went bad, like I made a mistake with him, I would need the halter for control. Can everyone say SECURITY BLANKET. Yesterday afternoon when the farrier left, (after she had jumped my arse for keeping a halter on him too) I brought Cody into the stall, gave him a brushing removed the halter, put it back on, removed it, put it back on, removed it, put it back on. Got it down now where I can do it without the piece that goes around the neck (sure some one is gonna give me the name) being flashed infront of his eyes. He is a happy boy as long as you don't wave that rope infront of his eyes.

Oh, lovely job! It's wonderful to have hooves that don't make you cringe when you look at them, isn't it?

Been there, done that with the halter. When I first got my mini-mule, I left her halter on for ages because she was so skittish, I couldn't catch her without it. When Superbrat Syd, the man-eating mini weanling came here, I left her halter on because we needed a "handle" to maintain a certain amount of control over our interactions. But in both cases, it was done as a calculated risk, and as soon as my comfort zone had been reached, the halters came off. If they could work the buckles, these girls would halter themselves now!

She did a good job on his feet. She is right in saying that it can take up to a year to have healthy new hoofs. The key is to go slow.

They make a break away halter. The crown piece is made of leather. GREAT invention. This is what I use when I turn out my mare and she needs to have a halter on. I also use a rope halter when walking or working with my mare.

As far as the where the horse should be when walking, I let my mare follow me. Never besides me. After getting clocked in the head by a horse that spooked they will never walk next to me. However this is just me. I do not like my space being invaded.

If Cody is doing well with what your feeding leave it be for a while and see if his weight improves, if not add a bit more.

He has a very kind eye. I am so hppy that you guys are able to give him a good home.

Awesome souds you like you found a gem of a farrier my old farrier didnt even talk to you unless you did something wrong... I have been folowing Codys progress and just have to give props for taking him in and the speed in which you are getting him healthy...
