Anyway In the bin with Ameraucanas there was a bigger more long legged chick, I loved it so I bought her when I got home my friend said it was a turkey poult! I guess someone put her in there for some reason, and I was stupid enough to not notice anything suspicious. Anyway...How do I care for it? It's living now in a big 17 gallon bin with a 75 watt along with 4 chicks, and 3 ducks does it need more poults or a special kind of food? I'm feeding them Non-Medicated chick starter..It says it feeds all backyard poultry? What to do? I want to keep her and see what turkeys are like.

I have often raise turkey poults along with my chicks. They can eat the same foods and always did fine. Lots of people dont like to raise turkeys with chickens because of the blackhead parasite issue, but we would just feed the turkey the special medicated food every few months when they got older, and we never had an issue.

Good Luck, you are in for a fun experience, Turkeys are interesting!! Try to handle it as much as it is comfortable with, so that it is friendly and people bonded.

Not sure of the breed but It looks like a wild eastern I think?

I know nothing of raising turkeys, but I have to say, I was at the feed store yesterday and was totally surprised at how cute those little turkey poults were! I had no idea, and I can totally see how you were drawn to it!

Thanks! I guess I might not need to get him some more friends after all

I'd put them all on high protein feed, the turkey needs it, the others will perform better with it. I get 24% chick starter from TSC Dumor brand. That should be a happy medium. Gamebird feed I believe is 28%, and not really necessary to be that high. I wouldn't have him/her on regualr chick starter though. It's just not enough for turkeys.

Yes I know hahaha!
Yay Chicks! :
