I use it for starting my Garden seeds, I have florescent lights mounted in it. I just clipped a round light onto the side with a 100 watt bulb for heat.

Congrats on your chicks

They are adorable. One thing though you may want to watch close because if the start pecking at that plasic on the pads they could get sick. I also used the blue pads and mine started eating the platic and pulling it up all over. Ended up removing it and just keeping the pine shavings down.
